Seven days here settle into a rhythm of their own. Surf at dawn, cinnamon at noon, Galle at golden hour — and at least one day you happily give to nothing at all.
Days one and two — arrive, and slow down
Let the house do its work first. A swim in the 18-metre pool, a walk of the plantation with Kasun, a long lunch from the all-day kitchen. In the evening, a cinnamon cooler as the sun drops behind the paddy.
Days three and four — the ocean
Dawn surf at Kabalana with RDS, then breakfast on the deck. Spend an afternoon beach-hopping — Paradise Cove for a day bed, or the long walk along Harabadua to KK Beach.
Day five — Galle, at golden hour
Drive west to Galle Fort and time it for sunset on the ramparts. Wander the galleries and jewellers, then stay for dinner inside the walls once the day-trippers have gone.
Day six — go wild
A whale morning off Mirissa, or a deeper expedition with naturalist Eddy — the leopards of Yala, the elephants of Udawalawe, or the rainforest at Sinharaja.
Day seven — do nothing, beautifully
Keep the last day empty. A sunrise yoga flow, a treatment in the wellness room, a pot of Virgin White tea, and the pool until the light goes.
That is the secret of the south coast: the best plans are the ones you happily abandon.
