Kabalana Beach
Simply one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka
Leaving the bustle of Ahangama behind and travelling towards Galle you quickly come to the beach of Kabalana but blink and you could miss the entrance to it, look out for the fruit seller. There he sits surrounded by pineapples, bananas, papaya and just about every fruit you can imagine, including Sri Lanka’s famous king coconut. So here you climb down some rickety steps made from sandbags and rocks into paradise.
Kabalana is a long sandy beach stretching for the best part of a kilometre, the water is a deep turquoise blue with the perfect waves for surfing. If you fancy having a go lessons are available at Sayon Surf, the guys there will get you riding the waves before you know it.
If surfing isn’t your thing just rent one of the homemade loungers, with their rustic roofs made out of palm leaves they offer the perfect shade, at $2 a day they certainly won’t break the bank! From here you can watch the surfers riding the waves or enjoy a refreshing swim.
If you fancy a stroll wander down the beach and have a coffee in style at The Sandhya Hotel, a beautiful modern building with clean lines and stunning design.
Fresh juice or beer is easily bought from the pop up sellers along the beach or you can find local, delicious food at Palm Paradise, a family run business perched up above the sand. Sri Lanka is know for its friendly hospitality and here is no exception.
Kabalana is definitely a beach that has to be described as paradise.
